Sure he's been told not to go near anything to do with yesterday but it's good to hear him still so positive about the future. Be so easy to be doom and gloom still but gives you comfort and more room for optimism that he's looking onwards and upwards.

Horrible feeling Wolves will sack Rob Edwards and McInnes will be the immediate favourite. Especially given previous experience of the midlands at WBA.
We'll need to fight to keep McInnes. He's grown with us and he gets us. He feels a unique part of us now. Gaffer.

I'm sure McInnes and the family are choking to get back down to that neck of the woods

Almost feel like how this season has gone it will be very tough to go again, how much has gone in to this and the disappointment of losing out will be hard to bounce back from.
It might not be the very worst thing if he did go elsewhere and go again with a fresh start.

Penny for Dels thoughts.
I just can’t see him being happy at all with the amount of leaders and core players we are losing (or letting go). He’s all about building a strong group over a period of time and has his players he depends on. One to watch I reckon.

The rest are folk Del wants gone. If you’re worried he’s going to the Ranjurs it’s because he’s a Gers man not becuase we couldn’t keep a hold of Frankie Kent

If folk don’t believe Good Ranjurs Man Del McInnes wasn’t involved in inserting a Rangers clause into Good Ranjurs Man Lawrence Shankland’s contract then it’s probably best they avoid things that take any sort of brain power.
There is no doubt McInnes put it in on the promise that Shankland would get his move if he did well for us. Someone - anyone - higher up than Del should have knocked it on the head. This is the risk you run by bringing in Scottish guys - chances are they are one or another and they will work together for the benefit of the club they support. It’s a nice bonus if we do well but the end point is them getting to their beloved. It’s the same for Del btw - if Hearts do well and it means he gets the Rangers job then happy days.
Doubt Del had mich to do with the clause other than, I want you please stay and saying to Jonseh / McKinley to get it done. Del won't be pouring over contracts, he'll play a part in wanting it done but doubt he'd be in the meeting with the agent, above his pay grade. He 100% will have had a hand in when he was at St Johnstone and Killie, but not here
This one is on McKinley / Jones letting it get to the point where we had precisely 0 leverage and were desperate for Shanks to sign and gave him whatever he wanted It's not a Rangers man conspiracy. Halkett, a Rangers man, signed a new deal last year, Del fixed it for him too aye?

How do you gain leverage when the player wants to go though? Do you think hearts genuinely forgot to offer him a deal in his last year when he was flying? It was the same with Souttar, if he won’t sign a deal on your best offer and is going to run it down what can you do?
For some of these boys all they want to do is play for an old firm team, it is what it is and there’s not much you can do to change a lifelong ambition. Thankfully with JTA there will hopefully be a lot less of that.
Mcinnes isn’t negotiating deals or adding in clauses ffs.
My fear is there has been penny pinching from Hearts which allowed his agent to add this ridiculous clause in our desperation. I doubt we’ll ever find out but it’s a fucking sickener. Del has worked so hard building this special team spirit and it has been wiped out in an instant. I’ve got a concern he won’t be here much longer.

You don’t put a clause in their three year contract that they are free agent after a year FFS.
Don’t sugarcoat this for a second - this contract is weird as fuck and Del will have been involved in it. 24 hours ago we were all fine saying Del was instrumental in getting Shankland to sign but now he’s not involved in it other than saying nice things? It’s fine - he is a massive hun that wants to be the Rangers manager so isn’t going to stand in the way of massive hun who wants to the be the Rangers striker. He knows full well that dangling that carrot would have got it over the line. He will have thought it was worth the risk. The fault is on the ones above him that should have been clear that it absolutely wasn’t happening.

I think McInnes will have known fine well this clause was on the table, he was adamant he wanted Shanks in and this is what it cost. He's no daft, as long as he's backed in the market to replace them and rebuild I think he'll be fine, the reason he fell out with Aberdeen was because of them not backing him properly in the market and we've proven we're willing to do that, signing boys like Ageu would go against any penny pinching chat as well.

If you want to resign them, you do it early. If you aren't bothered, leave it let it run out. If you want them and they don't resign, you put them in the stands till they pen a new deal or until their deal ends

Lost him for free a year ago vs lose him for free now.
The optics are disgusting, but we got another year of a top class striker. Does feel like the rug pulled out from under us though.

If the option was to take this pish contract or lose him for free last season you’d have taken the latter? I can’t see how it would’ve played out any other way or what other options we would’ve had, Del was very open about how desperate he was to keep him so the ball was very much in Shanks’ court. He had left hearts at the time he renewed so he wasn’t bluffing, he was properly already out the door before coming back. |
