My bursd has jury duty on Monday so she was just looking up what will be happening on the day.

Why do you have to opt out of doing a religious oath? Wiggo

Surely affirming the oath should be the standard rather than swearing on god Laugh

There wasn't any oath when I was on jury duty at the High Court.

You either take the oath, or affirm. Not both. Sound

Regardless should affirmation not be the standard? Genuinely surprised that you would swear on god unless you made the point to affirm.

Fuck knows CK, that's where she's going and the info she's reading say the jurors will be asked to swear the oath or affirm.

2017 Anniversary Games: Tom Bosworth smashes one mile walk world record
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/40549175

Special

Is there a more pointless world record, or event even, than the one mile walk?

I don't get it. I'm sure he's a very good walker, but what's the point? How do you even become a competitive walker? Does someone decide you're just never going to be a professional runner and suggest walking instead?

Tell her just to do the oath. Everyone does and if elect not to you've got to stand by yourself and give some gay affirmation thing.

Lampoon

Morph: yes, it absolutely should be the standard. Warnock Then again, you still have gowns, maces and wigs (no jokes pls) in court, so they're not exactly known for being at the cutting edge of progress. May Bee

The clerk asks the jury for a show of hands for the oath and affirmation respectively before administering either. Usually about 60/40 in favour of oath, based on what I've seen. Nobody will bat an eyelid.

I would as well.

I thought church and state were mostly separate in the UK so surprised these traditions still exist.

The queen is the head of state, she derives her power from God and she's the head of the established Church, in england anyways.

By and large we're too nice to let stupid stuff like that actually interfere with the daily workings of life, but ultimately it all comes from God.
