Consensually, might I add. She offered up her ring, and he jumped at the chance.

I feel like I've seen the whole film already from the trailers though.

Hate when trailers do that.

That's why I try avoid them. It's one of these that the plot is pretty unremarkable. It can't really get spoilt for you. Just a really well put together film with some great acting. If you're into that. If you want explosions and twist endings, avoid it.

At the time I interpreted it as an attempt to subvert the motif in the pre-Craig Bond films that ended with a cheesy "making love in a spaceship / sub / in front of a roaring fire". Good to see that I was correct. Greggy

I just didn't think it was clever or funny. Would've found it much funnier if he'd said "no thanks, I'm gay" and ran off to save the world, never to mention it again.

e: Enough whining from me about the film. I thought the church scene was brilliantly choreographed!

Watched Chef on the American Netflix, great little film. Easy going, well shot, scripted and directed. Would recommend it.

13 Assassins

A small band of samurai attempt to kill a ruthless lord and his large entourage on their way back to their home province. Very entertaining and the focus on the story as well as the action is admirable.

The Loft 6/10 - 3rd remake of this, not one to watch with the Mrs-films about infidelity generally aren't.... going to check either the belgian and dutch versions to see how they compare, also Isabel Lucas Pinilla

Charlie Wilson's War 7.5/10 - decent film with Tom Hanks as an american congressman attempting to gain support in arming the afghans during the 80's soviet invasion, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is brilliant as per usual as a CIA agent, lots of gags for such a serious matter, deffo worth a watch.

At Fright Fest over Friday and Saturday so here goes:

Atticus Institute - pretty decent possession movie - 7/10
Wyrmwood - batshit crazy Australian movie - 8/10
88 - weird, but the director/lead actor was pretty cool in the Q&A after - 6/10
The Asylum - boring fucking tedious pish - 2/10
Clown - Eli Roth. Nuff Said  3/10
The Woods Movie - behind the scenes footage from the makers of the Blair Witch Project. 5/10
The Treatment - very heavy, very powerful, very graphic dutch movie - not really horror and definitely worth checking out 9/10
REC4 - fuck sake. 2/10
There Are Monsters - pretty decent Invasion of the Body Snatchers like movie 6/10

Serena - 7/10

Interesting story with quite a bizarre ending. Jennifer Lawrence is pinilla in it.

Still Alice - 7/10

Nice film, can see why Julianne Moore won the oscar for it with a great performance. Alzheimers is some scary shit.

Rudderless - 8/10

Really interesting film I stumbled across on Netflix. A dad trying to deal with the death of his son in a high school shooting in America.

Seen the Kingsman last night.

Great fun, really wasn't what I expected. Pretty slick with all the slow motion stuff and all that. The ending is utterly bizarre. Laugh

Slaying the Badger - 8/10

The ESPN documentary about the 1986 Tour de France and the battle between Greg LeMond and Bernard Hinault. Superb stuff.

The Price of Gold - 8/10

This was also an ESPN documentary, this time about the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan rivalry. Fascinating viewing. I didnt realise Harding was such a good skater, nor did I know she (apparently) had nothing to do with giving Kerrigan a beating. The viewing figures for that Olympic skate were as high as the Superbowl!

White, Blue and White - 8/10

ESPN docu about Ossie Ardiles, with some about Ricky Villa, and their move to Spurs and how the Falklands War was difficult for them. It was a real struggle to play in England, especially for Ardiles.

Black Sea - a surprisingly good film save for Jude Law's absolute honking attempt at a scottish accent.

All he needed was a Jimmy Bunnet and a kilt and he'd have got it down to a t.

"It Follows"

Wonderful.

Lynch, Carpenter, De Palma...Ju-On, Ringu, Halloween, Carrie...retro, contemporary, forward thinking...

A glorious mess of influences and ideas.

No doubt some, maybe most, people will loathe it but I thought it was nearly perfect.
