Was in a cafe in Portobello today grabbing lunch and noticed a sign saying the toilets were strictly for customer use only, which is fair enough.

Not only that though, but they also charge customers 50p to use the toilet, as their water is on a meter and they themselves are charged every time you flush or wash your hands.

I'd have thought there would've been some law that states if you're providing food and drink for consumption on the premises you had to provide a toilet free of charge? Pretty poor IMO.

As a lawyer, I can say that according to section 20 of the 1976 Local Government MIscellaneous Provisions Act, toilets should be provided if food and drink is being sold for consumption on the premises.

Does it specify provided free of charge though? I think it's pretty outrageous to charge paying customers to use the toilet, but is it actually against the law?
