Does seem a very lenient sentence even considering he didn’t end up hurting him badly. Can see where there is mental health involved putting someone in for a long time might not be the best course but for something like that I’m surprised it only carries that.

Especially considering you can get put away for life for hurting someone’s feelings on the internet these days! Titter

6 years for a wee assault (meaning you'd serve 5 and a half) isn't all that lenient tbf. Quite Good

Na surely hitting someone in the heid and neck with an axe because they’re foreign (even if you’re shite at it) canny be argued as a wee assault. Laugh

Obviously Acey knows more about this (pains me saying that) but I side with Morph on this one( this pains me even more)

The boys tried to properly hurt him here, the malice and intent was there, should have the book thrown at him.

When you watch the VAR footage back he pulls out the challenge at the last minute, he's obviously a bad wee bastard but hes stopped short of making any meaningful contact thankfully.

I've watched enough crime programmes and documentaries to know that 4 year is probably quite a lengthy sentence compared to what could have been.

Think it's best to get cunts that are hitting folk with axes banged up, even if they're not very good at it.

I had a horrible feeling that it would. Too many people in the parliament playing their religion card to try and justify them voting against it.

You can take your pet to the vet to have them put down to end their pain and suffering, but if you’re dying a slow horrible death your choices are to go to Switzerland, commit suicide and risk your family members being charged with assisting a suicide.

So much for us trying to care for people eh? Fat Cunt

There’s a version going through Westminster as well but likely fail.

That would infringe on devolution so I’m not that arsed about Scotland and Westminster putting through their own bill the result will be the same anyway.

You had doctors coming out and saying they would refuse to carry out the procedure if it was passed, that is massively out of order. Letting their religion dictate the care someone would’ve been entitled to.

That’s always been my argument as well that we won’t let our pets suffer but you can let your grandad rot for months.

A lot of very bad faith voting against it when it was solely for people with a terminal diagnosis who had their mental facilities. People trying to argue they’d be taking folk with a limp and lining them up against a wall and such.

Palliative care services need more funding and GP’s, District Nurses etc need to do better when comes to treating people with terminal illnesses. With proper symptom management a lot of these people wouldn’t be suffering the way they are and hospices would be left to deal with patients with more complex needs.

Not against the bill but it needs to come with a complete overhaul on how we deal with people with life limiting illnesses, hospices shouldn’t have to depend on donations and fundraising to keep the doors open and medical professionals shouldn’t just dump patients onto them once they can no longer “save” them

2 different arguments imo. End of life care can be improved but that doesn't mean assisted dying shouldn't be an option alongside it. Ultimately regardless of how good care is there will come a time where many people are waiting to die and i personally don't want to hang on until the bitter dribbling end. I'd rather make the decision before then and i'm sure there are many that are the same. We will all go on about how palliative care, hospices, old age care etc should be reformed but fuck all will happen on that front either and we'll continue to watch our loved ones suffer in shitey conditions.

I don't really hear many people i talk to worrying about the conditions they have to suffer in. The issue is they have to suffer with 0 quality of life in the first place and we can do XYZ (which again won't happen) to give people the most comfortable, highest class end of life care but that doesn't change the fact their bodies are on the slide to one direction and they want to have some degree of control over this. Personally I don't see a medical solution that allows you to be riddled with terminal cancer and live a good life right up until the day you die.

For me the bill was actually too restrictive out of this fear that families are going to be sending their grannie to an early demise, there should be protocols that would have allowed this decision to be made when you didn't have mental capacity like in the event of dementia or similar. We went through it in our family where for a significant time the guy was totally lost and just had to suffer until his time came, majority of that at home. I am genuinely working towards keeping money aside that if i ever need to boost to a private solution it's possible, it's brutal that the vast majority probably won't have that option. This might come across as ablest but the bad faith lobbying from disabled organisations was very disappointing and that's before you get into that loony MSP talking about a guaranteed life after death.

Not surprised it didn’t pass but it should absolutely be somebody’s right how they want to go.

Even if you signed something when you were still in full health to agree to it if you were ever to deteriorate. I wouldn’t want to go out burdening everyone and having no dignity left(less so than currently)

The argument is you could’ve changed your mind in the time between signing a document and becoming mentally incompetent.

Surely that argument could then be made towards wills/power of attorney etc Jezza

I get Benoit’s point about doing it alongside improving care but one could give people immediate relief from suffering and the other is very unlikely to ever happen so it’s frustrating if that needs to be a caveat for many for this to actually get behind it. I don’t really think the safeguards could realistically be any more robust than what was proposed so it’s likely it will never pass for some time now.

I just canny really buy this whole “if one person is coerced and dies needlessly then it shouldn’t happen”. Loads of shit is legal like driving a car that carries risk of folk needlessly dying but we accept it and try to minimise it as much as possible for the greater good of everyone.
