Grim. Really grim. Hard to watch but hopefully releasing this will make a few people think twice.

Won't make a blind bit of difference. The authorities need to take a firm stance on drink driving and being under the influence when driving with proper jail sentences before you see a change in attitudes.
It'll screw up a lot of people to begin with but the message has to be understood that such actions cannot be tolerated.

Individuals are to blame. He would have wrapped that car in to a wall doing that speed in a 30 regardless of how impaired his reactions were. Harrowing none the less. Total waste.

Not sure I entirely agree, VS. Yes on the individuality/personality but take the drink/drugs out of it and you chances increase significantly. First and foremost you don't tend to get yourself into such a situation in the first place, and certainly not over such a timeframe. Exceptions and aw.

Tbf getting a minimum year's ban for having a reading of 25mg/1000ml is a pretty firm stance as far as I'm concerned.
Why fucking bother having a glass of wine if you're going to drive an hour later; just have a glass of water, or a lime and tonic.  Anything else deserves serious fines or jail time.  I one year ban is fuck all to folks who live in a city.  It's not  a deterrent, and neither are the increased premiums as a result, generally speaking.

A year ban is a pretty serious deterrant.
Most of the people I know won't touch a drop since the rules changed - previously a pint and a half was doable.

Comparing having 1 glass of wine to boys rallying about off their heed on eckies is why there will never be a serious, grown up conversation about what is a safe level to have a socialable drink and then drive.

A year's ban would cost a lot of people their jobs, me included. When they brought the limit down in line with parts of Europe, they didn't bring the penalties down in a similar fashion.
Nobody's claiming that driving after a drink or two is a smart thing to do, but the problem is that in many cases it's incredibly difficult to judge whether you'd be over the limit the following day(s).

What do you think is a safe level out of interest? I've been quite impressed with the lowering of the limit. It has basically stopped the majority of people drinking at all if they are driving and that is a positive. I'm like Pondlife, can't see why anyone would need to have one or two if they are driving.

I know the Scottish Parliament went through a consultation on drug driving limits a couple of years ago, but is there any progress on that? I am under the impression that it's harder to prosecute drug drivers in the absence of a limit, is that right Acey?
