Tbf, it doesn't actually change the fact that how he responded during the terrorist attack was brave as fuck. We turn random punters into heroes when they didn't ask for it, then we attack them for not being perfect people.

This is obviously a pretty extreme example in that he's not turned out to be imperfect so much as completely awful, but it seems to be something we do more generally. A side effect of meme culture.
