I doubt he was aiming for the child, if that makes you feel any better. May Bee

England & Wales have formal sentencing guidance, which we don't really have up here. Considering that most people get fined £300-£500 for drink driving, £80,000+ and a ban of almost two years seems proportionate to me.

Theresa May apologises for the windrush fiasco. She'll not want to throw Amber Rudd under the bus, so I presume she'll lay the blame on whatever reactionary dolt was in charge of the home office previously.

I've never really said that his punishment isn't fair compared to other normal people.

I think there needs to be a blanket ban for everybody regardless of their income. Taking away someone's ability to drive effects them the same regardless of their wage. I also think life time bans should be handed out more too.

There's just no excuse for drink driving eh. Speeding is a bit of a different argument but if you're caught pished at the wheel I think that should be it. Especially after being so pished you've caused an accident.

What do you think happens now? There's a statutory minimum 12 month ban for a drink driving conviction.

There's one. Until there's a reliable way for people to measure their breath-alocohol content, you won't know for sure whether you're over the limit until you get the printouts from the intoximeter in the police station.

France has breathalysers fitted in cars as standard or something like that I think?

Although there was a good Stuff You Should Know on breathalyzers and they're far from reliable, so maybe that's what you're hinting at.

If you're even slightly unsure you're over the limit you shouldn't be driving?

Driving a car isn't exactly a right. Just think you need to have a hardline stance on it and if you get caught because you thought “I'm a big guy I thought it'd be fine” then well fuck you it's your own fault Laugh

If you're going to be doing that often then there are home kits you can use to check your level.

A year isn't enough either Laugh I genuinely know a couple people being in the industry that i am who have had bans because of the lifestyle they have chosen, in both cases they see out their year or however long it was they got, maybe take it easy for the first bit and then theyre back to how they always were.

How many hours would you leave it after going to a party/wedding and having a few drinks? 24? 36? 40? If you felt totally ok after a day or two, but ended up being 5mg over the limit, how would you feel about me going FUCK YOU SCUM YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN at you? You're dealing with ridiculously fine margins here - 22mg (microgrammes, ffs) of alcohol in 100ml of breath is a low low limit.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't be accountable for their actions. I just don't think you should be so pious about it.

There's a reason why courts don't accept anything other than type-approved intoximeter results as evidence of alcohol calculations.

Since the lower limit came in I have been quite worried about the morning after, so bought a home breathalyser. It sits in the glove box so it's always there if you are away somewhere or have had a few the night before. Worth it.

Make sure you aren't sitting in the driver's seat with your keys on you when you use it - could be done with being drunk in charge. Tony Can't Hear You
