That's shite. Is it the school that submits their recommended grade or do they not have a say in it?

Aye that's an arbitration panel job likes - appeals haven't even been submitted, let alone rejected. There's a plot hole somewhere in this story Eek

I did think that was remarkably fast for submitting an appeal (along with half the country, by the sounds of things) and having it assessed. Monty But

Not really - the school says we have to appeal via them, so we did.  It was school that came back and said unsuccessful.

No plot holes.

I think you're missing my point - I'm not saying there are plot holes in *your* story...

What they've told you doesn't make sense - that's not how appeals work.

Ah. Warnock I did wonder.

Copy of email above.  Very odd wording the way they say "not eligible for a review".

We wanted to appeal two subjects for my boy, who got an A in his prelims but they awarded B's.

So they're not eligable for appeal for some reason, as opposed to "appeal refused". Not that that sheds much light on the situation. Monty But

Was going to say, I appealed one of my Highers and was well into the next school year before I actually got the result back (successful, of course shittea).

Are the school only allowed to make a certain number of appeals or something? Seems a bit strange to say straight away they're not eligible.

That letter is bollocks likes Warnock

The SQA are allowing free appeals this year (appeals were scrapped a couple of years ago except for exceptional circumstances), so cost isn't an issue, and the only criteria as far as I know are that the pupil consents to an appeal, that their result was lower than their estimate and that there is evidence to support the estimated grade. Therefore, if your daughter did genuinely get a C in a valid prelim, that is evidence that her original estimate was accurate and the school should be appealing.

Possibilities why the school is refusing to appeal: the prelim wasn't valid; she didn't actually pass the prelim; they've lost the evidence; they can't be arsed with the paperwork. I genuinely can't think of any other reasons when it doesn't cost the school any money, and I would think none of them are acceptable reasons to you. Even if it was a pass by a single mark, there is nothing lost by trying. I'd be going back to them likes.

Yeah, once I've peeled the wife down from the rage cloud she's currently stuck on - I'll be pushing for an explanation.

Don't push for an explanation, get them told to submit the appeal. End of story.

Correct. What use is an explanation? It's a scandal.

The SNP's long term shitshow regarding educaton will fuck independence. We really need to make a distinction between the independence movement and SNP HQ as the gap in reality is growing.

Seems the rest of the UK will be doing the same as Scotland with exam grades:
