I'm not a structual engineer obviously, so I'm only basing this on what I've read but if that's the way it's supported then it obstructs the corners and then you'd need to re-roof the whole thing.

Wasnt sure it was all the roofs but yes, of course, the main stand first.

Given that Budge has just quoted -

"We can probably increase the capacity here to around 21,000 and we need to move fast because there's a lot of people who want to come and watch us."

Ive got a feeling that there will be an anouncement between now and the end of the season regarding this. Especially if we qualify for Europe and even win a cup.

Bigger stadium means more money for better players which can mean the further we can venture in Europe / win cups earning us more money and more fans wanting to see us play and round and round we go.

Its a pleasing thought.

Personally I am not convinced by the case for a 21k capacity unless its cheap(ish) or a current stand fails.

Would it make more sense to replace the Main and Roseburn stands at the same time? It would mean the pitch size/run-off could be increased, although we'd probably have to purchase (or part purchase) the old Tynecastle High school, the adult learning centre and nursery. In an ideal world we'd just CPO everything and tear everything down. Even aside from that, the space between the Main stand and McLeod street is completely wasted given the potential for development. I'm sure if we approached Edinburgh City Council and proposed hotel space as part of any construction, they'd be all over it.

Another cheeky million on the planning applications and then nothing would be a tremendous troll on the happy clappers.

We should build a monorail into the city centre direct from the new stand

I think they are pretty keen on getting a safe-standing section too.

Filling the corners in would mean 3 brand new roofs so don't know if they'd go for that.

They could do a cantilever but I don't know if they'd have the space for it.

Is the roofing thing a 100% fact or just what some amateur architect has said over there?

It doesn't take a structural engineer to look at Tynecastle and see the corner towers support the roof m8 Laugh

Is there really demand for another 5,000 tickets a week?

No, but given that the main stand isn't a medium term solution we need to think about a new stand. Then we have to ask what's the optimum size given costs and benefits. We could sell more tickets against rangers, Celtic and hibs. Occasionally against Aberdeen and in Europe too. How much more can we bring in for those half a dozen games without bankrupting us.

Knocking the wee stand down and replacing it with a stand like the "famous 5" would be decent I think. So enough space for hospitality/boxes etc.
