Just hypothetically, would it be a big deal?

Obviously I don't want him to leave - statistically he has to be right up there with McGlynn as Best Hearts Gaffer Ever, but given Mr Levein's excellent role as DoF, and the club in general pulling in the same direction for once, surely another coach could continue the good work that has already been put in?

That is obviously the idea, but Neilson is incredibly good. He will be the one that is in contact with the players 99% of the time./

Yeah, he is very good. On his way to the top IMO.

Without knowing who does what in the Neilson Levein duo, I can't really say. He does seem very very good though. Bids will be in for him at Christmas if we're up at the top of the league, that's for sure.

Neilson is obviously very, very good, but equally, Levein/Budge have been very, very good for him. How much of it is down to the structure and how much of it is down to Neilson's ability is almost impossible to tell until he leaves and we bring someone else in. If we can continue our success and Neilson struggles, we'll know. But we might just as easily decline very quickly with him going to the top of the game.

If neilson leaves I can see Hartley taking over.

Hearts are a fairly big draw for players/managers again by the looks of it.

If we stick to the plan, it'll be Jack Ross most likely.

We are developing head coaches as well as players.

This season will be when we see how good Neilson is, imo. He's media friendly and seems good in terms of fitness and instilling a professional attitude, but he's suspect tactically.

I don't think you can say he's tactically suspect Mak, he's still learning his trade. His mistakes are under the microscope due to the fact he is making them, at in Scottish terms at least, a big club. He'd normally have spent years experimenting on formations in the lower divisions.

He's suspect inasmuch as he hasn"t proven himself. He's made mistakes and might learn from them but also might not. That's why we don't know how big a loss he'd be.

I think he's very good at making inplay changes. He's had a couple of weird moments regarding team selection though such as last week and the 3-5-2 defeat to Hibs. Not a fan of the constant changes but if it works who cares.

Either he's experimenting with formations or he's making it deliberately difficult for managers to try and play against us. Like AP says, so far it's working so I'm not worried about it.

I've never actually thought about that. If he changes formations all the time no cunt will no what to expect.

It's paid off so far but can't help but think he won't be so lucky all the time. He managed to pull it back against Dundee in a half but we probably won't always be able to do that.

Still unsure about Jack Ross. His results have been terrible but I'm not sure if it's a reflection of him as a coach or what. How did the 20s do when it was walker/holt/etc etc that was in the team?

Not that I especially care, but I always assumed Crawford was next in line, no?

Think that's the plan. they might go as a team elsewhere though. Suppose it would depend on the job.

I thought Neilson brought in Crawford as he had coached with him at Falkirk or something? I assume they are a team?

Ross was brought in pretty shortly after Levein took charge.
