As much as Clarke has done a good job, I think there being a bit of feel good factor back has made/will make a massive difference. The depressing atmosphere around the national team gradually grew over a period of years, and you could see it filtered through to the players. Not having fans there might even have helped to take the pressure off a bit, and hopefully when fans do get back to games the atmosphere will be a bit more positive.
Just thinking about Northern Ireland under Michael O'Neill, and for all the praise he got, he hardly reinvented the wheel as their manager - just got a settled team that wanted to play together, and the fans behind them. We could genuinely do quite well if we can replicate that.
