Even if they only had Plan A and it backfired massively, you've got fucking Clarke there staring you in the face
 At the very least it would have been a fresh appointment and a change from the Scottish/unemployed/ex old firm criteria that we always go for. I'm sure he knocked Petrie back for the Hibs job once so maybe that is the issue.

Surely you just go back to Strachan if McLeish was the second best candidate? McLeish isn't in Strachan's league.

Strachan never became washed up the way McLeish has. Wouldn't have surprised me if he ended up at Falkirk etc... now he's running our national team.
