Couple he made from Bobbins were outrageous

Still a great keeper, no question.
Some fans booing him ![]() Folk on jkb calling him a snake for not chucking in a goal

Great keeper and a club legend, but wasn't at all happy with Scott Wilson sucking up his arse in his half time interview with Stephane Adam. Save that stuff for after full time.

Folk giving him a clap was a bit much for my tastes. He's persona non grata to me until he stops playing for Celtic because I'm an extremely petty and bitter individual

That save from Prince was top drawer, sickening that he's pulling them off in a Celtic jersey against us though.
Can only commend people booing him though, until he leaves that cesspit its what he deserves despite him being a bonafide legend.

Tbf, I'd happily hoover up the circa fifteen grand a week on offer from those cunts, especially if I'd been out of the game for two years and on the verge of calling it a day.
Still my favourite Hearts keeper by a mile and probably always will be. Perhaps hyperbole but arguably the closest thing we've had to a world class player in recent history too. No doubt in my mind that he'd have gone on to much greater heights than Sunderland if his fitness never let him down. ![]()

Gordon wasn't the finished article with us: didn't command his box well enough and distribution could be iffy. That might seem like splitting hairs - in fact, at SPL level it is splitting hairs - but in terms of being 'world class' I'd say it's relevant. He had the potential to be on that level but, arguably down to bad luck, never fulfilled it; Niemi was already a great keeper when he played for us and it was probably only his lack of stature that stopped him from getting a really big move later on.

He's the 2nd best goal tender I've seen at the Hearts.

Gordon was better than Niemi IMO. His reactions and technical ability were world class at Hearts and even his flaws in distribution and command of the area were well on the way to being sorted.
Not to say that Niemi wasn't exceptional as well, but for me Gordon was a special player and we'll be lucky if we see another goalkeeper as good as him at the club in our lifetimes.

I think he was well on his way to outstripping Niemi pre-injuries, and agree that he was a more 'special' player, but I think Niemi was better while he played for us than Gordon was while he did.

Just have to agree to disagree - I think there's probably very little in it either way, so I'm not going to have a go at anyone for falling on the other side of the debate. They were both incredible players, so it's almost unbelievable we've had two keeper that good within a decade of one another.

Gordon had a nice line in double/triple saves that got you out of your seat.
![]() There was one against Sparta Prague at Murrayfield that was fucking brilliant (#10 on this list):

I always remember the reactions of the Sparta players after that triple save - they were just standing with their hands on their heads, looking at each other in pure astonishment.
![]() They then immediately scored from the corner if I remember right

The guy throwing a tantrum at just how good the save was gets me every time.
![]() Can barely remember anything about that tie. 0-2 at Murrayfield, 0-0 in Prague wasn't it?

Pretty sure Pinilla was taken off in the home leg and fucked of straight up the tunnel shaking his head at the bench
Also sure I was home in the house by the 75th minute - Â pissing with rain that night

Both great keepers. Â As was Henry Smith. Â Didn't see enough of Rousset to comment.
The notion of 'Commanding your box' was starting to change in Gordon's day so it wasn't such an issue.  I'd also say that in the SPL anyway, with the CBs Hearts had, the understanding Gordon had with them - essentially crosses just outside the box you deal with; inside I deal with meant no biggie really.  That changed at Sunderland where he was surrounded by absolute dross. Also, while Niemi was very agile he simply didn't have the length that Gordon had, with the latter being able to claw away certain goals.  What I remember about Smith was that he was very good at getting down to save low, and had excellent recovery/multiple save ability.  Bit unfortunate to be up against 'bandy' leighton and goram. e: I also remember Smith, near the end of a game at Tynie, as I was walking back along the terrace from Shed towards exit, and being right behind the goals at that point, 'showing the ball out for a goal kick' as was his custom but this time right into the top corner.  It wasn't even close to going out, Henry.
