Think it was Aberdeen who are pushing for a reform in the system. I hope we support it as it feels like it's harming us.

It’s something I ridiculed in the past but tbh I’m at the point of not really seeing the point in the academy. Would be bad for scotch football overall if we all did it obv but for us as a club we lose these top talents at 15/16 and the guys left who are coming through largely aren’t good enough to get regular game time in the first team so they either play in the lowland or just jump about loans that never really amount to anything.

In the last 20 years what plers have hearts produced that would be considered top class? Only 2 that jump out to me are gordon* and hickey. Notable mentions to irving, walker and dr funk but theyre a fair bit off they 2.

Hopefully he gets the chance down there but I always feel these moves are counter productive.

He'll likely never be a man city player but there's more chance of him making a career coming out of the man city academy than there is fucking about up here, let's be honest.

Let's can the academy because we're not producing players who can play in the EPL?

Can't see what possible benefit there could be to having a system where young players from the general area have an opportunity to play and train with a professional football club, even if they don't make the grade they can still be professional players elsewhere.

Irving off the top of my head has came through and played in the top flight, him and Paterson both played for Scotland. Wilson has played for Scotland.

Nicholson and Holt have managed to have decent careers out of it as well.

No, because you're lucky if you get one coming through to play regularly for hearts.

Sam nicholson was ok but that crop of players king/nicholson/funk/mcghee etc benefited massively from us having to rely on youth. Funk was the only one of note out that crop too imo. I rated wee holty but if these are the players you are going to look to to prove why the academy is overall good for hearts then i think you're only proving my point tbh.

We're no doing it to provide fodder to middling teams in scotland we do it to either get good players to play for us or players we can sell for decent profit. Anyway im not suggesting we can it i just see it as a waste of time and doesn't really produce much for us. When we do get a half decent pler as well we don't have the patience with them anyway and we hit that usual loan cycle.

Absolute no brained for the kid to go to Citeh, wish him well. Likely won't make it ther but who knows. Only 15. Better chance of developing there and having a career in the lower English leagues. The difference in level of coaching / nutrition and all round care will be lightyears ahead of what he can get at Hertz

Other side of the coin though, to point another L for Shelly Kerr. What's she doing? She no supposed to be building the pathway for these kids?

Only so much you can do though. First team football isnt going to be on the cards for him for 1/2 years at best here and that offer from city is likely once in a lifetime for him. Not really sure what the club could do to beat that offer.

An L for Shelley Kerr?

He’s 15, training with the first team squad and has been handpicked by the top academy in England Warnock

Not sure what he can legally be paid as a 15yr old but he'd get 5k a week at city once he's an adult.

If they rate him he’ll be on even more than that. Doak was 15k a week the day he turned 16 at Liverpool. Reality is he’d be mad to turn it down unfortunately. Very slim chance he makes it to the City first team but you’ve got to back yourself, and even he just gets as far as their ‘Premier League 2’ team he’ll get himself a £10m move to Europe or the Championship. Good luck to the lad I suppose Monty Oh Well

Went conservative. Family friends with a laddie that was on loan at motherwell from Leeds in the championship. He was 3k a week at 18, so scaled up for stature of club and down for stature of player.

I'd kinda quibble on the 'back yourself' bit - backing yourself would mean looking to play first team for hearts this year. If he's going to majw it in the game then, if he's good enough, he'd get a move that guaranteed football soon. Man City could ruin his career through stagnation. If he can't make it at Tynie he'll never make at city, or anywhere decent. Not that you're wrong to say going to man city shows belief.

But he should take the massive payday, absolutely.

I was giving that a listen but had to stop as Mark Donaldson kept on doing pointless shite like quizzing him on what the line up was 0n his debut, who did they beat in a friendly in 1998 etc. Nippy as fuck. Laugh

Will maybe revisit it.

Fair play to the boy,
I loved him when he was on top of his game.
Playing in league 2 now though, Hard to say that he's one we shouldn't have let go.

It’s a good idea but I just don’t like them without the sponsor. Just looks wrong.
