It’s a really odd thing for them to do when they have a lot of focus on being a community club and usually do it pretty well.

I know money is hard to come by in Scottish football but it’s particularly weird on the back of a good season and European qualification where they will have made more than normal.

Not that I'm ever gonna wear a strip but nice to see the players look decent in it.

And every year I struggle to see anything better than Torino FC. Maroon like us but they always just nail it.

Occasionally Sparta Prague for same reasons, but not quite as good as Torino, who have nailed all of H, A and 3rd, yet again for 2026.

Fwiw i don't really see an issue with gambling sponsors or at least not to the extent others do. It's not ideal, bevvy companies don't seem to come under the same scrutiny though. If the SPFL/SFA could do better by the clubs then they wouldn't need to chase the highest fee which will always be 'immoral' companies.

Hearts are only in a position to take the sponsors we do because of the money we have behind us, although we still do have crypto gambling sponsors (that i don't even think can be accessed in the UK?) on the digital hoardings. Clubs in scotland are strugglin' financially outwith a few so it is what it is.

Thought it was quite funny that the world cup have banned gambling sponsors but they happily have crypto prediction markets Laugh

The gambling sponsors are praying on young men, the main demographic of most football clubs. Motherwell do a huge amount to highlight suicide among young men, a big reason for that will be down to gambling addiction. Doesn’t really add up.

I don’t disagree but they’re still a business at the end of the day, im sure they would rather not be plastered in sponsors of any kind and would probably make the argument that bringing this money in allows them to continue that community work and helping folk.

If the fans are unhappy about it and able to pressure the board to dump them then fair enough but I don’t think it’s that mad a decision to take it when you consider the financial predicament these clubs find themselves in.

Alcohol is the same btw, a massive impact on suicide rates but that’s more culturally acceptable than gambling.

I’m not trying to downplay addiction btw I’m just not sure I fully buy into this proper demonisation of gambling that we see.

Really no point condemning a gambling shirt sponsor in the William Hill Premiership tbh.

Aye I agree alcohol sponsors should also be banned, although pints are class.

Schteg - aye it’s a fair point but Well are a fan owned club and if this isn’t the sort of thing fans can influence then it’s all a bit pointless really.

I think the Budgie showed the way on this to her credit. Even when we came out of admin without a pot to piss in, we looked for sponsors that were morally decent and it helped us attract investment ultimately.

I'm pretty sure drinks companies are banned from sponsorship but there are some weird loopholes like that Hibs sponsor because they're not selling alcohol, but I could be wrong.

Maybe on the shirts but all clubs have bevvy sponsors. We’re with Heineken, Motherwell have tennents. Whether it’s on the shirt or no doesn’t really make a difference if you’re taking money to allow them to ply your customer base with their pints Laugh

It’s easy for us to say we done right post Romanov but only because Budge was pals with Anderson who was happy to chuck us free cash to get save the children on the front. We seem to have a few IT companies on board but that comes from specific contacts in our board, they sponsorships aren’t floatint about for all clubs.

For me it’s as simple as if there was more money, better TV deals etc we’d be far more attractive as a league to sponsor but we get the dregs or very local options.

Most of the EPL are sponsored by bettings companies so I’m dubious about that lack of money excuse. There’s just a real lack of decency in football boardrooms and it’s up to the fans to kick up fuck about it.

Tony Bloom was a major figure behind how football came to be so dominated by gambling companies. We’re a fan-owned club and you never see any of our fans complaining about him owning 30% of the club.

This is also true before you get into the zio stuff Eek

I just canny get on my high horse about it tbh.

Maybe there’s more to be said about English companies who don’t need the cash but you just can’t accuse Scottish clubs of being greedy, maybe Celtic, Rangers and a few clubs outwith that could afford not to but I don’t begrudge Motherwell for it.

Ultimately up to their fans, I’d imagine the naming rights to our stadium likely won’t go to a nice local company doing good stuff for the community but we’ll all welcome the cash influx into the club if it makes us better.

I think what's coming out here is that Motherwell fans are right to be upset, but also that that particular horse bolted at least several decades ago Warnock

I think the bigger issue is a lot of these gambling companies on shirts, particularly down south, are basically all shell companies for dodgy cunts/organised crime. I get maybe not having much of a leg to stand on with your traditional betting companies, but when it's stuff like that then I think you're well within your rights to be kicking up fuck and asking questions about why your club is taking money from folk like that.
