I don't have a problem with us taking on players like this - it's a low-cost approach which can occasionally pay off massively. It can't be our main source of players, though. In this instance I'm fine with it provided that we aren't signing all of these strikers because we're getting rid of Lafferty.

If you make up a League One/Championship select squad, you will have a League One/Championship calibre squad - this isn't rocket science.
As others have said, worth taking a chance on a one or two as cheap squad players in the hope they raise their game, but there shouldn't be too many of them in there.

Yeah, a few too many. It's the kind of approach people like in theory (think how many 'we should sign gems from the lower leagues' threads we've had over the years) but which in practice is going to have a lot more misses than hits because most lower league players are there for a reason. Wouldn't have a problem with us going after the obvious standouts, but right now we seem to be going after players who are pretty average even at that level.
