Looks a fairly assured shot stopper and positionally I couldnt fault him. Looks slightly suspect with high balls but that was really down to timing/decision making. There's a video doing the rounds on Twitter with some of his saves over the last couple of weeks.

Sounds like we have something to be excited about ![]() Watch Budge not renew his contract and him go to Celtic on a free

He'll slink off on a free as he fails to dislodge cheesey for a place in the first team.

It's an interesting question - when does Stone see himself getting into the Hertz first team? Gordon's showing no sign of wanting to hang up the gloves, and he's playing well enough to be in goals for the national side.
Hopefully he's been given sufficient assurances that he'll get his chance in a couple of years, and to go on loan for regular first-team football in the meantime.

How long has gordon got left on his contract? He's still a good keeper but at 38 can't really see the point in renewing his deal if it's up at the end of next season or the next again if we've got a very promising keeper coming through the academy.
I know keepers can play on a bit longer but you're really pushing it at the tail end of 30s and there's no value at all in him now transfer wise.

"The problem we have at the moment is that everyone is sitting on the laptop in the house. And I watch games on the laptop and believe me, even when I'm watching Man City or Barcelona, I'm ready to switch off after 20 minutes. It's just difficult for everyone at the moment, but we have to try and remain positive, get ourselves over the line and get punters back [into stadia] as soon as possible.†that's a fucking great troll.

really leaning into the idea that we're pissed off because we can't witness the weekly travesty of a performance in person.

Gordon will get a new deal at the end of this one. He and macgregor have years left if they look after themselves. Prob play in to his early forties. Plenty time for stone.

After the Pereira/Zlamal/Doyle shitshow of recent times, we'd be absolutely insane to just bin one of our best goalkeepers of all time for a laugh if he's happy to stay.

Plenty time for stone. If he gets a new deal then I wouldn't like to see him be first name on the team sheet every single week tbh. I know it sounds daft because he's doing very well but you've got to think of the future as well. If he's to stay on past his current deal then Stone needs to be guaranteed decent game time through the season as well if he's genuinely as good as being made out. He'll be about the same age as Gordon in 1-2 years when he started playing in the first team as well and it would be annoying as fuck to lose a good prospect for nothing because we're not going to play him in favour of a guy at the very end of his career

I watched Barca's Monday night game vs Valladolid, which the Catalans finally won in the 2nd minute of added time. It was utter shite but still better than anything Hearts have put up in months.

I also remember the last time we pushed out a decent enough veteran keeper for a highly-rated youngster ![]() Gordon's leagues better than wee Neil ever was. I suspect he's quite a young 38 due to that extended period he wasn't playing so he could have a few seasons in him yet. Brad Friedel was still playing in the PL into his 40s, I think that'll be something which becomes increasingly common in the next few years. If Stone's progressing well, give him the league cup games next season.

Buffon is older than Gordon and is still playing at a higher level, so I'm in absolutely no rush to chase him out the door.
Can we not just enjoy having a decent keeper for a while?
