Remember when Italy was on a few hundred deaths a day and everyone was all “that wouldn't happen here, it's because they kiss each other and have an old population, they're not a clean people anyway”?

We've recorded the highest daily deaths two days running, half the Cabinet have been incapacitated with it including the Prime Minister going into intensive care, so many NHS staff have died that they won't even answer a question on how many in press briefings, we're throwing up pop up morgues for fun, and our government has failed to organise the most basic of PPE and testing. And the media is just... glossing over it all. Front page headlines are all “get well soon Boris ps some people also died”.

It's proper disheartened me. You wonder where the line is at which point the public will actually wake up, and we've found out that line isn't a catastrophic failure to deal with a pandemic costing thousands of people their lives

I've noticed a lot of “they're counting every death as COVID, it's all an exaggerated hoax” type chat as well. A lot of anger at the media for asking the government questions instead of laying off them. We aren't so far away from being America after all.

My mum is fairly level headed and is half jokingly now saying she doesn't know anyone who's died and is wondering if it's all a big scam and they're just chucking numbers on the telly she doesn't normally watch the news or engage in world politics so all she's getting is the daily government briefing.

My parents

Think I might have said before that my old man has had lung cancer and heart failure (caused by fluid in his lungs) in the last couple of years, so he's high, high risk, but is seemingly veering from taking it seriously when he watches the news - lot of anger towards the government for lying about testing, PPE etc - but then is just so reckless with his own behaviour. Firing about the supermarket with my mum, even though I've repeatedly said I will go for them, snuck out to visit my uncle last week behind my mum's back, buying elderly family shopping and visiting them... my mum had brain surgery about 18 months ago as well so she's not supposed to be out either.

Apparently the doctor phoned him yesterday and warned him he should not be leaving the house at all, and 10 minutes after the call he was telling my mum he was heading over to my aunt's to take her shopping He didn't go in the end but he probably will and I'll find out about it afterwards. If he catches it, he will almost certainly die and he actually knows what being on a ventilator is like, so you'd think he'd have some kind of caution.

The visiting relatives thing is what is doing my heid in as she knows fine well she shouldn't be doing it but goes to her dads every week anyway.  Think he's still going out for papers every morning so not like it makes that much difference
