Don't think anyone would argue that these workers dont deserve to be paid more - but these guys are still in work and that work is fairly secure (the same goes for the NHS workers tbh). Meanwhile there will be loads of people who have been put out of work during the pandemic who will not receive any Christmas bonus or paycheck for that matter - and be wondering why those that remain in work are being rewarded.

It's a potential logistical nightmare in terms of identifying who should get and who doesn't across the councils.

Regardless of how they attempt to implement this, there will be people who will receive it, who shouldn't get it and others will miss out who should get it.

It'll be an unmitigated disaster for sure.

Small businesses are dying, we can't give money to everyone in public sector.

The British government gave money to pretty much every cunt not in the public sector to sit at home for 12 months. Not sure why they now have no money for people in the public sector?

Why is it even a conversation? What have these people in councils had to do that's in any way comparable to the shit folk in hospitals have had to endure Laugh

I thought the one bring people in this country could at the very least agree on is the folk working for the NHS in the hospitals/surgeries whatever have really went beyond what should be expected of them and a wee 500 bonus doesn't even scratch the surface of what they should have. Obviously not Laugh

Agree with this, no idea how they'd even begin to implement it. I've actually had to work in folks houses with covid, do I get it and the guys who had to isolate all summer get it too? If they don't what do the unions say about it? Do people who've had to work from home get it despite arguably being better off from reduced commuting costs?

Save a lot of hassle by just giving us the pay rise we're due which imo is the angle the unions are playing

Supposedly a lot of the lowest paid in hospitals (e.g. porters etc.) are employed by private companies such as Serco. Not sure if they qualify for the £500?

Nah I don't think they do.

That's a shame they'll miss out.

Totally agree, think it's a good bargaining chip for the union's, which will hopefully see us get the pay rise we actually deserve for a change.
