Sturgeon is taking the piss with the over cautious approach now. Even Wales have seen sense regarding isolation.

This is all about you and your football though.

You can now try and pretend its all about your deep concern for NHS staff and their isolation periods of X days or Y days, but it's always been about you and your football.

if NHS isolation period was three days shorter, I'd bet my life you'd still be spraffing the same muck.

It is genuinely quite sad to see how much certain TH posters depend on going to the pub & football to get through their lives. Queenie

What's the point of the stronger restrictions in Scotland other than NS trying to show she cares more than Boris and the Tories? It's all just politically driven to portray Nicola and the SNP in a particular light. And it's working.

From what I saw today cases per capita are higher here than in England. The difference throughout the pandemic has been fairly minimal, despite England having far greater population density and links to other countries.

Would it not be more bizarre if Scotland and Wales as a devolved parliament and assembly just somehow came to the exact same public health conclusion of every facet of the pandemic response as guys like Boris and his tinky mates? Boris himself now wants to introduce more stringent measures, but Patel and her mob are ready to topple him if he even tries it. Very dangerous political game he is playing, basically praying that this variant will be sound and he'll come out of this smelling of roses as always.

Folk who are pretending to be bewildered that the Scottish Government is making slightly different choices to Westminster on an issue as serious as a global pandemic and then acting the goat with the idea that wee Nicola's ego is OUT OF CONTROL.

Personally I'll never forgive the First Minister for not setting out her stall and adopting a radically different, much more stringent approach than Westminster. It's typical of the SNP to constantly demand for more powers and when they get them - they refuse to exercise them. It was incredibly weak to entertain that '4 nations' pish with Boris, Cummings and Hancock + their establishment scientists that cowered when it mattered most - she can go to hell for doing that. The border should've been closed immediately. UK ended up with the highest death rate in the western world and our 'devolved' parliament consented to needless killings.

Funny how some think the First Minister has been 'too radical' in making different choices to England.  Warnock  What a load of tosh. Some people just like to live in chains though.

Tragic that that's your criteria for good governance but each to their own I suppose.

I don't think the SNP have done a good job overall during the pandemic but that's irrelevant to the here and now in my view - I've not commented as to whether they've been 'too radical' overall in terms of their pandemic response. With a highly vaccinated population & weaker strain of Covid being dominant, it's a different landscape to what existed in 2020. The recent restrictions absolutely fuck over hospitality venues. Not putting reasonable funding in place and 'advising' people not to go to pubs and restaurants etc. to socialise is a disgrace. People like 2naFish above aren't bothered because they have safe public sector jobs and cut about in Mickey Mouse t shirts.

I'm not saying to follow Boris and co completely. But the restrictions put in place have to make sense and have to be consistent. And they have to work. Have they? I don't think there's much evidence they have, in comparison to England. One of the major upcoming pressures will be the NHS staff shortages caused by extended isolation periods etc. England shortened this about a week ago, NS has been very slow to react, increasing pressure on the health service and in care homes. The track and trace system is an absolute waste of time & a waste of money. I'm not sure how shutting the Scottish border would've worked tbh.

Meanwhile, a lot of businesses have begun to recover over the last six or so months (pre Omicron). What happens over the next few months will decide whether many businesses (and jobs obviously) survive.

Completely agree unfortunately. Her bleating about wanting stricter measures but for nasty London not giving us more cash was cringeworthy stuff. I've voted SNP in every election since 07'. There's a real lack of transparency in the party now and that's really worrying.

Mad that the SNP have come up with a bog standard European centrist pandemic response, largely failing to even be cautious enough, and people think we're living in some public health dictatorship because our only point of comparison is England Warnock

Not sure anyone on here's called it a public health dictatorship but. Personally I just find it irritating that I've lived under some sort of stronger restrictions for the vast majority of the past 2 years with very little discernible benefit in comparison to our nearest neighbours.

You're right that no-one on here has called it a public health dictatorship - I was using hyperbole. It's a rhetorical device

I'm fairly ambivalent on the SNP's handling of the pandemic. It strikes me as pretty much straight down the middle in terms of European technocratic governments - and hardly any of them have handled the pandemic very well. I could've just as easily said the exact opposite in my last post - some people seem convinced the SNP have dealt in a fantastically humane way with the pandemic, and that's also because the only point of comparison they have is England.

All of the Scottish stats suggest we've been pretty piss at dealing with it. But that's par for the course in pretty much every country in Western Europe.

My problem with the current restrictions is the constant moving of the goalposts around what the big bogeyman is with omicron.

Cutting isolation to 7 days. No need to get a pcr if you get an positive LFT just isolate.

Can't tell the number of people in hospital who have tested positive for covid but we're not admitted for that reason until Friday.

Is that not only if you're fully vacced? Does fully vacced mean 2 or 3 doses now? Also, how do you actually get pinged as a contact, how do they get your number?  vladchin

I'm totally done with it now like. Just gonna get my boosters and go about my life as normal

You just going to batter down the door of Tynie and demand to be let in because you're deciding you're going back to living as normal? Heh
