The budget was mismanaged - savage/naisy bought bottom 6 players from bottom 6 clubs who were never the level.

This is a crock of shit btw. No offence

Aye Penrice has been our best player despite coming from relegated Livi, biggest loss for us is Shanklands form dropping g off a cliff, the amount of games he won is in the previous 2 seasons was ridiculous

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the last 5 games are anything but dead rubber games. We could conceivably drop to the play off spot if we don't win some of those games.

I fucking hate that "these aren't his players" excuse that gets trotted out for demonstrably shit managers.

They become his players the second he takes the job. This is mostly the same squad that pished third last season, yes Savage and Naismith made a cunt of preseason and that resulted in a terrible start but a capable manager gets them going again. He hasn't, and it was alarmingly obvious from the start that he was never going to succeed here.

The opposing team's fans must love him. Seven games against Aberdeen and Hibs and zero wins. When the fuck did that become acceptable?

Penrice isnt a good enough defender imo. He isn't young and shouldn't be making the mistakes he's made. Zero signings from the summer are at the level let's be honest:

In: Malachi Boateng, midfielder (Crystal Palace, undisclosed); Musa Drammeh, forward (Sevilla); Yan Dhanda, midfielder (Ross County); Blair Spittal, midfielder (Motherwell); James Penrice, defender (Livingston); Daniel Oyegoke, defender (Bradford City, undisclosed); Kenneth Vargas, forward (Herediano, loan to permanent); Ryan Fulton, goalkeeper (Hamilton Academical); Jamie MacDonald, goalkeeper (Greenock Morton).

Disagree completely on Penrice, the signings of Fulton & MacDonald were solely as a third choice back up and to help the B team out.

Not going to argue about the others, but Penrice making the PFA Team of the Year is hardly an endorsement for him not being good enough is it?

I’ve been a critic of his defending but calling Penrice dross is nonsense. That said when you add McCart, Steinwender, Kabangu, Kartum, Milne from January that list is not great reading. Doesn’t even count the dud loan signings of Taylor and the Colombian guy.

Fair to say Penrice and Spittal are the two successes from 14? Eek As Floyd says I’m not counting the two keepers as they’ve both done what they were brought in for tbf.

'Dross' is one of those words people use on internet fora all the time but I've never heard a person use in real life.

Penrice, mccart and spittal are the only signings you can say have really been worth making. Jury is out on the January signings but no one really shining so far and one of them has went and chucked a cup semi before HT.

Is Hoff injured again or does Critchley not fancy him? Wasn't even on the bench yesterday.

I wonder if some of the players would be considerably better with a proper coach/manager in charge.

I refuse to believe Dhanda couldn’t come good with competent management around him, for example.

McCart is absolutely fine if he is your no-nonsense limited CH that just headers anything that moves and immediately moves the ball on if he gets it - you need at least one of them in Scottish football.

Boateng and Oyegoke were both sold for cash money after 6 months, which is better than we normally do with signings TBF.

Get someone in that has half a clue about managing professional football teams and they’d get a tune out of a lot of this squad, IMO. For some reason they had totally turned on Naisy at the start of the season and let themselves down massively.

Still think he looks a solid enough option, upgrade on Rowles for me defensively anyway. Don’t think he’s the best centre half we’ve ever had but between Kent, mccart and halkett when fit I’m happy enough there.

Steinwender just seems a liability, sent off at half time in a semi and also fucked about at the back against Dundee Utd and gave them their goal. Both are against teams where you shouldn’t be feeling a massive amount of pressure. Another one of these guys like Sibbick who will be half decent for majority of the game but you know they’ve got a big mistake in them every game.

Steinwender is one of those guys that's not a good enough footballer to be a right back and not a good enough defender to be a centre half.

Was it no Jan Molby or somebody that basically said he wouldn't cut it in Scotland? Monty Oh Well

McCart is a career Jock Prem jobber who should be a decent backup to Kent and Halkett.

McCart was good after half time yesterday when he could be parked at the edge of his own box in a back 5. His first half was shocking, you almost felt sorry for him watching Morris make up 5-10 yards to run past him every time. Was like watching a confused Yank actor in soccer aid.

Point is if he only looks good when you park the bus, he should be the wrong signing for about 80% of our games. We’ve signed two centre halves in January and neither of them are as good as Halkett, Kent or Kingsley.

I like Jamie McCart although I’m probably blinded by the fact he was an upgrade on Rowles

McCart can't run, which isn't ideal for a professional footballer.

Johan Mjallby

He told the Scottish Football Social Club: “Good luck Hearts, no, I’m just kidding. He was decent for Varnamo, which is a really, really small club, who have survived going down and getting relegated. He is six foot three, quite lanky, good in the air when it comes to corners and wide free-kicks. I am not too sure he’s got the character to marshall the fans he is quite mobile because he’s not the heaviest, like they are today. He’s six three but quite slim, maximum 80 kilos, so he’s not a big boy when it comes to that.
“He’s decent on the ball, he can play his football, which is like the modern game. Is he a perfect fit for Hearts? Honestly, I don’t know. I really don’t know, it’s difficult to tell. It’s just about the character. If he’s got a strong character, he will go in there and show the real quality and be able to become a leader. If he’s not the right character, then he will just fall apart.”
