What about young Leave voters that saw a pensions crash coming?

Triple lock was a fucking joke, the unconcerned youth are to blame for that, not the self-interested old.

This handy graph shows the issue an independent Scotland would have in joining the EU.

Anyone want to speculate how we'd get down to the required levels for EU membership?

Doesn't matter now Mags, that's a discussion for pre-Indy ref. We've been dragged out the EU now.

Yes voters were happy to drag Scotland out the EU mags, I doubt anyone will care about an Indy Scotland getting back in.

Interesting evidence from Mags showing the United Kingdom just isn't working for Scotland. As for Britain overall - Living standards are worst since the war and the outlook for future wages is "dreadful".

The problem with all of these graphs etc is that the arguments are circular: "Scotland's finances are in the shit so independence would be a disaster" is always going to be countered with "the UK is a disaster for Scotland, which is why our finances are in the shit". With that graph, you're showing a battered wife how bad her life is with her husband as evidence she needs him.

Imagine Scotland would do much better without the extra £1700 per head the Barnett gives us.

Erm.

All that graph shows is that it would not be possible or desirable for an independent Scotland to join the EU.

A position I have repeated many times here despite prominent posters on here telling me that my position on it has changed.

Take it you just ignored what Begbie was getting at?

Showing an Independence those figures is meaningless. All you're showing is how much shit Scotland is in just now. A supporter of Independence doesn't look at that graph and think "fuck, you're right, we'll never make it alone" they think "see, that's where we are being part of the UK".

Different interpretation of the same data. Data that proves nothing.

You read bleak, bleak shit like this and Mags graph just sails over your head. It's actually depressing. I wish Britain was prospering and everyone was leading a rich and fulfilling life with enough money to achieve that, but it couldn't be further from the truth.

As is the trend everywhere in the world right now - things can't get much worse, let's try something else.

I'd like to see more stuff on the 'citizen's payment' model and see the figures for giving everyone a basic amount that gives them enough to survive vs the welfare system and how much it costs to administer etc.

It's definitely something that's worth a look at.

There is so much inequality and hard working people aren't going to take getting utterly shafted like this much longer. If something radical doesn't happen there will be some sort of revolution soon enough. Probably why the government and all of the political class are pushing through the most extreme surveillance measures ever seen in the west.

That's a brilliant suggestion. A way for independent Scotland to dramatically pare down its welfare state (so meeting its EU requirements in time) and to take its public with it would be by becoming the first country to implement a basic minimum income. You should be writing policy for the SNP!
