Im heading there at the end of the year for about a year, possibly 2.

Looking for some tips from any of you sick cunts who have done a bit travelling in general or even better, around Australia. I fly into Melbourne and the plan will be to get a hostel and after a month or so of getting a feel for it, finding a job. Probably on some farm in the outback.

Pretty much Edinburgh with the sun these days, every man and their dog going over.

Should have done Thailand or USA.

The plan is to head across the states on the way back.
Also looking forward to visiting New Zealand.

Know a few people that have done New Zealand and they've loved it.

I've been living in Sydney for the last 2 and a half years, and it's brilliant.

I haven't made it down to Melbourne yet but I've heard good things. Planning on getting down there at some point this year.

Hostel are good initially, but if you're serious about doing some work, try to avoid them as you'll end up smashed all the time. A mate of mine is in Melbourne just now and got a room in a shared flat pretty easily.

If you are planning on doing two years, the doing rural work helps a lot. I know a dame who travelled round for two years and worked on a number of different farms. Looks like it can sometimes be hard work, but you meet a lot of decent people.

There are a few agencies that can fix you up with rural work. I'll see if I can get the details.

Bear in mind that the southern half of Sydney can get quite cold during winter (June, August, July) with even Perth and Sydney not being that great. Aim to be up in Queensland or NT for these month (Unless you're into Snow Sports, in which case head to the snowy mountains)

Definitely take advantage of being so close to NZ too. Pretty fucking spectacular place.

Thanks for that. I'm going with the girlfriend and our rough plan is to stay around in Melbourne for a month or two. Maybe even get free accommodation by working in the hostel we stay in. Then head over to NZ breifly before working our way up the east Coast toward Sydney/Brisbane/Great Barrier reef.

Particularly in NZ, Kiwi birds are frothing for a Scottish accent, you could look like the toxic waste boy at the end of Robocop and still be fine

Mate went to Aus with the bird, stayed with her family so free accommodation. Ended up fucking detesting her every single day but couldn't tell her as he couldn't afford to get a hostel/hotel jjay

Moral of the thread, don't get a bird.

That sounds fucking horrific, a 2 week holiday with a girlfriend can be bad enough without having time out from each other, spending a couple of months (before getting a job) with someone 24/7 is a sure fire way to end up single!

Pal of mine got around the world tickets with her boyfriend of 3 years. First stop was Australia, the cunt fucked off and shagged another bird 3 days after they got there. She basically dumped him, the problem was that all their flights were booked sitting together, so she had 14 flights to shout abuse at the cunt.

I'm going to come right out and ask - you're the boyfriend, and "another bird" is "a riddled Melbourne prostitute" eh?

The thought of spending that much time together has crossed our minds. Think we are going to try and sleep in different dorm rooms in the hostels every now and again to help us meet other folk.
