I think he's been great and a model professional for us but I don't think we should get ahead of ourselves with him yet.

We've been playing against pap teams and pretty much any formation/set of players will result in a win. He's not really had to make massive changes in games where we've been chasing games, the only one that sticks out for me was when we were playing way too narrow against hibs and they were all over us down the wings. At tynie.

Next season will be a lot more difficult for him, playing against better teams who will be a lot better organised and know how to deal with teams rather than just stick 11 behind the ball. Big season for him coming up, but I'm sure he'll take it in his stride. Great backroom staff we have at the moment as well, don't think a manager could ask for a better set up at this level for his first job.

To be fair to Neilson, he's probably the most highly rated of the young Scottish coaches. Even though he hasn't had to prove it much, everything suggests he'll be able to handle the Premiership.

Everyone was raving about Paul Hartley the same way in the lower leagues, moved to Dundee now no ones talking about him anymore.

Dundee are going for the top six.

Another excellent season for Hartley and he'll no doubt move to better things soon.

If you're not impressed by Hartley then you're not paying attention.

Paul Hartley is a highly rated coach, and hasn't been that bad at Dundee, considering they got promoted this season and the resources they have at their disposal. Neilson has greater resources so can do everything he wants to do.

Most of Paul Hartley's praise was also people really impressed that he drove the team bus and washed the kits at Alloa, etc. That's fair enough, but coaches like Wotte have said Neilson is the best young coach they've seen.

I'm not sure if that's directed at me but i didn't say i wasn't.

I love PH. I wanted, and thought he would get the job instead of Neilson at the time.

Laugh No it wasn't. Of course it was mentioned but that wasn't the main reason why he was getting lots of praise as a manager at the time.

It doesn't really need to be mentioned though. It's not relevant to football coaching. It shows he's a dedicated guy and stuff, but plenty of football coaches in this country do the same. It's not even that it's a bad thing, it's just not what i'd expect when I look at a evaluation of a coach. When people talk about Neilson they talk about triple sessions, gym sessions, incorporation of sports science, one-on-one time with the players, how he structures his week of training, the fact he chose to have Monday off instead of Sunday, etc. Comments on his commitment are that he is in Riccarton from 7am-7pm.

I'm not saying for one second Hartley is a bad coach, BTW. I've said that he's really highly rated, and as AP points out, he has a newly-promoted team challenging for the top six, and really doing better than they should be considering the resources they have.

My belief is that both Hartley and Neilson are talented coaches, but coaches in the game rate Neilson higher than Hartley.
