Funny I am still waiting. I had actually forgotten about you until I was directed to a post you made about me on here where you basically wished harm to me.  Not offended in any way as the feeling is mutual.  I had no beef with you at all but you consistently would grind my gears and insult me by calling me a racist etc for an incident that never happened.

You can't go tearing down statues because you don't agree with what they represent. That's the stuff of ISIS and the Nazis.

There's definitely a debate to be had as to whether or not these statues should remain or not. I can see both sides but think I probably come down on the 'they should be removed' camp. Perhaps a museum is a better place for them. It is clearly an emotive issue especially in some areas of the south – if they are to be removed it should be done through conversation and consensus.

Many soldiers who fought for the confederacy were conscripted. I am not sure that it is right that they should be airbrushed and not remembered. Though from what I have read the statue of the confederate soldier was erected at the time of Crow to cause division and segregation so I can see why people would want that removed. Maybe a more subtle memorial to all those that died would be more appropriate.

Tearing statues down and kicking them because you are a deranged alt-leftie is quite simply wrong. March and protest to have them removed. Petition the local government. But tearing them down makes you a beast from the forest.

I'm not convinced that tearing down statues is appropriate, but comparisons with ISIS and the Nazis are probably more ridiculous. Especially at a time when people are marching about with actual swastika banners. There's no equivalence there.

These people, at least in many cases, have been petitioning government for some time to no effect. And the idea that every problem can be solved with 'conversation and consensus' is just objectively false.
That confederate soldiers were conscripted strikes me as irrelevant for two reasons:

1) We're talking about statues of their generals.
2) I don't think that confederate sympathisers will win this argument by appealing to the forced labour of their ancestors.

Speaking as a man with an otherwise worthless degree in history, I can assure you there are more ways to remember historical events than purely through race-baiting public statues.

I only wish I had known the above when I sat my Third Crusade finals and attempted to whittle a diorama of Richard the Lionheart slaughtering 3,000 Arab troops following the Siege of Acre in lieu of a, more traditional, written answer.
