What is this fucking garbage that is being spewed about 'saving Christmas' man? This country is a total joke. A lockdown should be to keep the NHS working efficiently and getting time to sort out this shit show track and trace system. Not buying time for santa ffs.

Suppose one of the unexpected consequences of 30 years of rampant neoliberalism is it turns the populace into utter fucking children. Who knew.

What's most depressing about this is how it's just a carbon copy of all the same mistakes from first time, gradually watching other nations go into lockdown, trying to convince ourselves we don't have to, gradually increasing and confusing measures and then eventually just accepting lockdown when the horse has already bolted, which could've probably been avoided with proper track and trace. Fully expect to see an attempt to avoid extending furlough followed by public outcry and an eventual climbdown. Rinse and repeat until there's a vaccine.
Anyway, seems there's some chance of Scotland avoiding full lockdown in the short term, although I imagine in the long term it's probably inevitable.

The chat towards the end of the week was about trying to coordinate across the nations. Which is to say we'll be dragged down to the lowest common denominator.

The way they announce these things is criminal, leak to the papers on Friday night with an announcement Monday. Horrible shower.
Hopefully we'll avoid the same fate.

Wasn't clear but what I meant is they should treat the public like adults and lay out the reality. The biggest issues for me in complying with all this now is the lack of plan. It's seriously demoralising to think this is just sticking a plaster over a bullet wound. If the had a detailed plan of how and why we are going back into another lockdown, and what we are going to do to make sure it doesn't happen again, then I think people would be more compliant. Save Christmas man Everyone is worried about their job, their health, the future. Aye Christmas is going to be brilliant.

What does point 3 mean here? We may have to go into a lockdown to take advantage of any funding Westminster provides now?

My experience of the track and trace system in Scotland is that it's absolutely shite.
My colleague only got a notification to self isolate when she opened the app ![]() I looked at the app on Thursday night when she let us know and the last time the app had done anything was the 18th October. Worst case scenario: she was in contact with an infected person on Tuesday, it failed to tell her until Thursday and during that time the app (we all downloaded it) hasn't been actually doing it's job and collecting the information it needs to.

I know someone who got a notification they had to self isolate.
12 days after the day they came into contact with the person

Point 3 I think means she's not convinced that if we don't lockdown at the same time as England that we might not get the financial aid if we then require to lockdown at a future date

Modelling is all saying that Monday is the last day to do something before hospitals will definitely be overwhelmed. Convenient how it always kicks in after a weekend likes

Can't wait to see this
![]() 'It's really very serious, and our NHS could be overwhelmed. The lockdown starts on Monday though, so get your last few hours drinking in now.'

Which implies that we do think things will eventually get bad enough for us to go into lockdown, in which case, yeah, why the fuck not just do it now?
