I think that’s a very interesting signing tbf.
He’s miles ahead of the bad right backs we’ve had over the years.

Hes 35 in October. I’d be very disappointed if we look to him as a first choice RB tbh
Not good enough for rangers anymore so not good enough for us

Not going to say no, he’s an option for games where we expect to have more of the ball and can deliver good balls from out wide, no chance I’d play him against the OF or Hibs but most other games he’ll do a job

Sked reporting we’re close to completing the Ba-sy deal

I know we've been starved of any right backs over the years but Tav wouldn't be the answer. There has to be better options.

He just gets rinsed by certain players. Hard one to judge. Could be class for us or a liability I feel like we need to stock up on a couple of players that ken the Scottish game and have a bit about them. The Milner/Welbeck strategy

I know optics aren't everything, but wouldn't feel great about Rangers taking our best player from us and us then going and taking one of their cast-offs directly after us finishing above them in the league.
I don't think the Milner/Welbeck comparison really works here because, unlike Brighton, our aim is to be challenging the top two. I also more generally think it's difficult to make a case that this perennial also ran would bring a winning mentality or whatever.

Think we are underestimating how much experience and leadership we are losing in one summer here.
Devlin, Halkett (essentially), Beni, Shanks, Gordon and then guys who have been around the squad for ages like your Forrests and Kents. That is a big issue. We could easily find some random from Europe better than Tav, but he ticks a lot of boxes.

The main one being he is an old rangers prick and can fuck off. I’m up for signing more mature senior players but 35 year old, hun sloppy seconds not for me. Would rather play steinwender there, not joking. Altena would still be my favoured RB out of those 3.

I do rate him though. I don’t know if mcinness could tighten up his defensive lapses. Just have him tuck in and play more defensively. As he gets older he needs to be less obsessed about his numbers and just focus on keeping the back door closed. His numbers are insane though.

He’s never really kept the back door closed though and I doubt it’s something he’s going to add to his game at this stage. If he was our RB that would still be the side folk would try get at and target.
That was always the chat about tavernier was if he was a competent defender then he would’ve played at a higher level. He was a ridic player for them but the ship has sailed.
Yeah, if the concern with Altena is his defending then I don't really see how Tavernier deals with that. Also not that sure where the numbers are left when he's not getting 15 penalties a season.

Not for me, Jeff.
Him chucking his toys out the pram and going AWOL when he's meant to be their captain sums him up.

I see Jamie Vardy is available on a free transfer.

Beni, Kent, Forrest and Neilson away.
Love ye Beni

Good point about him being a loser too.
Captained Rangers as they won some diddy leagues and then won a couple of trophies and a (covid?) league title with a club that should be hoovering up silverware. He’s hardly a winner - the Rangers fans will be happy about switching Shankland for Tavernier as captain.

Amadou Ba-Sy seems done.
I'll say again we need 4 top quality CFs. And a mix of types of players. I'm already seeing this as a good addition likely above all of Wilson, Kabangu and even Kabore. A real physical presence and aerial goal threat has been missing for too long. He seens comfortable on the deck too and mobile and pacey. |
