IMO one of the main reasons Scotland are so shite is our talented players reluctance to try new football cultures.  All the great teams have players all over Europe. We can't see past the M8. Even in here folk are suggesting Celtic would be a better move than Bayern Munich. Baffling to me.

You'll have said the same about Gauld and Burke though and both of them ended up going backwards.

Obviously personally I'd want to go to Bayern but I can see why he might think otherwise - even from a next move perspective he'll have interest in him as soon as he starts performing for Celtic, but realistically will anyone outside of Scotland be keeping tabs on him playing for Bayern's youth side? If he can get any assurances about decent first team exposure at Bayern it would be a no-brainer but I suppose only he knows if that's happened.

Isn't it more like a Jude Bellingham situation?

That's where I am, and I think that's why comparing him with Gauld and Burke (Burke is clearly brainless btw, so don't think he's a good example at all) isn't really relevant.

There's loads of young English and Welsh players who've moved over there recently and are getting games, obviously he won't get a game for Bayern right away but he could get a loan move to another Bundesliga side within a year and it would be infinitely better than playing for Celtic reserves or Hearts. He should be getting advised to try it now, Celtic would happily snap him up in 2 years if it doesn't go as well as hoped so it's not like that “dream” move won't be there waiting for him.

He's played give or take 1 full season in the SPFL at 17/18 and would moving to a major European club to play for their B team. It's pretty much identical to the Gauld situation.

Well that's two of Celtics best youngsters at Bayern now so I guess we'll see how it pans out regardless of what Hickey decides.

At that level then aye it's similar but Sporting and Bayern aren't the same, the set up, facilities and league setup is like night and day. That's more what I'm getting at, and Gauld clearly doesn't regret it at all seeing as he's still over there.

When Gauld and Burke moved abroad they received universal praise for not just heading straight to Glasgow and backing themselves in Europe.

It's not worked out for them but are we genuinely seeing 2 players not work out and now saying abroad is a waste of time and they're best staying at home? Laugh

I'm sick of seeing players not good enough for the old firm go there, play barely any football for a couple year then are released to some diddy teams in Scotland.

Any hertz fan justifying the Celtic move is a scab imo.

he'll go wherever he chooses to go and I for one couldn't give a fuck, hope it's sooner rather than later just so the chat on where he should go ends abruptly.

I'd like to say I'd move to Bayern if I were in his shoes, but it's a big deal for an 18 year old to move overseas for work.

He'll likely earn enough money in his career whether he goes to Celtic or Bayern, and ultimately who cares about “fulfilling your potential” as a footballer when you're homesick and miserable away from your friends and bursd as a (relative) nobody in Germany when you could be strutting around Glasgow as a big deal.

Would rather he went to Bayern, but it's completely understandable if he chooses not to imo.

Don't compare this to the time you went to Dundee.

He'd be straight into Bayern's B team.

If he never gets to their first team, he'll have spent a few years playing in the German third tier. Could be playing Champions League football and lifting trophies at Celtic during that time.

Obviously I'd rather he didn't go to those cunts but it'll depend on whether or not he ever sees himself getting to the first team at Bayern.

Speaking of Dundee, am I right I'm saying most of us on here are too young to remember Dens Park or weren't even born. My dad always says it's the worst day of his life, and it got me thinking, what's the closest thing the younger generation have to Dens Park?

Celtic on New Years in 2006? Probably didn't have much of an impact in the grand scheme of things.

Cup Finals in 96?

Losing to ICT at Easter Road?

Losing to St Mirren in the LC final?

I mind Dens. Fat Cunt

Nothing comes close to that for how shit it was. Losing cup finals doesn't even come close to that.
