First game back at fives tonight after the chiropractor has (hopefully) sorted out my back & leg pain.

Hoping I come through it all right or my fives career could be done and dusted.

She’s given me a guide to how and what I should be stretching, so I’m hoping that it makes a difference and I can get back playing again.

Blowing out my arse towards the end of the game, and took way more turns in goal than normal, but bagged a couple of goals and rattled the bar from distance with no pain in my leg or back which previously would’ve fucked me.

Just need to hope I’m pain free tomorrow in the leg & back and reports of my retirement could be premature.

No pain today other than the usual muscle tightness that comes from not playing fives for months.

Got another appointment at the chiropractor on Monday so hoping that within another couple of appointments, I’ll be able to start getting more than one game a week in again.

Twice a week is ideal, enough to stay sharp but a little recovery time between games. I was playing for three teams at one point last year and it was getting a bit much (I had five matches in a week in December) so I sacked my coed league and just play on Wednesday and Sunday now.

I'm now at the point where I'm regularly playing against folk half my age but I still just about hold my own. Most of the time. We played a college team the other week who were just a level above us and this guy who was a dead ringer for Toby Sibbick (if he spent a year in Auschwitz) absolutely fucking rinsed me with a Marseille turn. Thankfully, the lanky cunt couldn't finish because he just strolled past us at will.

Scored a brace on Sunday, the first was a McGowan in 2012 style diving header from close range after the keeper made an arse of a shot didn't get my hat-trick because I fucked my foot by kicking my own heel in a tackle and had to go off

Getting back to twice a week is the plan for sure, I genuinely think I’m too old to cope with much more than two games a week alongside going to the gym.

Just trying to get the fitness back up again now that the pain is gone, not going to kid myself on that it’ll happen overnight, but it’s good to be back.

Playing fives tonight in that heat.

Been sitting in a nice cold bath after getting in and still can’t cool down.

Managed to lob the keeper tonight from a nice angle after he came out too far.

Almost made up for losing by a goal with the last kick of the ball, almost but not quite.

Over at Goals in Shawlands mate. Been playing there for over 25 years now.

I got roped into helping my old coed team in the play-offs recently. They finished in the last place to still qualify, so that meant playing and winning shree games back to back to win the lot. We did just that

I didn't play a minute of the regular season, but I still claimed a winner's medal T-shirt for my troubles.

Decided to treat myself to a new pair of boots for fives.

Forgot how much of a ball ache it is breaking new boots in.

Scored a peach tonight in the first 5 minutes and thought I was going to be on for it tonight, then took a dull yin on the inside of my ankle and ended up alternating between being in nets and hobbling about for the rest of the game.

Wife gave me no sympathy and told me I was getting too old.

Haa, been there, done it. 
Used to score about 10 goals per game of fives (unfit as fuck).
It's all fun and games until a big fat bastard tackles you, and you have to go in goals. 
Or you don't have enough players so the young team get involved and you can't keep up with them

I’ve been back playing and the last 3 or 4 games have been tight. A draw and 2 games won by a goal, last week I noised one of the more athletic players about by time wasting in goals for literally the last minute so we won by a goal, he picked the teams this week and got his revenge, took all the runners and put me and the older lads on one team with 2 guys just back from holidays and won by 7 or 8. Takes the fun out the game when the teams aren’t balanced tbh
