You're right Morph. Generally breastfed babies get fed on demand rather than to routine like bottle fed babies. The recommendation is to breastfeed 6 months to a year if possible. There's absolutely no benefit to still be breastfeeding at 4 year old though.

The wife was/still is a wee bit, apprehensive about breastfeeding in public. One of her friends was told to stop feeding her baby, by an auld bastard, who spoke to her like absolute shite. Put her and my wife off, which is just wrong.
She breast feeds when I'm there now, because if anyone says anything, they'll be getting told to fuck off. She's nervous to do it on her own though, so she carries a couple of bottles of expressed stuff about. She's got one of they bras that the front unclips, so you genuinely can't see anything but some folk are totally offended by it. Bizarre. Thanks for the kind words Morph

If you're a breast feeder and you're shopping in Asda and the kid is hungry you've got a few options. If you choose "whip my bare breast out in the supermarket so my kid can suck on it" when "politely and privately let me child suckle my teet under a blanket" is an option, then to me you're being deliberately provocative. There's a whole host of mothers out there that feed their children from their breast in public and never get any bother. Then there's another group of women who seem to attract the wrong attention and moan about it on youtube whilst breastfeeding their 4 year old. Unfortunately there's Khali's situation, where even when it's done with decency, some folk have a problem with it. Can't ever imagine asking someone to stop what they're doing because I didn't like it think that's old people mentality that.I will say I think it's a bit disingenuous to claim you've got absolutely no idea how anyone could be remotely offended by such a natural thing. I think it's pretty clear why some people don't like it. I don't think they have the right to chastise a mother feeding their child, they should just take their offence and go somewhere else, but it's not exactly difficult to see why it's an issue for some. The standard reason for them is to maintain a connection with the kids. Load of shite, 4 year olds want you to read to them, play games, paint. How much of her time is wasted campaigning for shite like this that would be better spent engaging with her children?

What if you don't have a blanket with you? I've never looked closely enough to check tbh, but I'm fairly sure you can be discrete about it without covering your baby's head. The connotations that come with "whip my bare breast out" (of mothers going "WAHEEEEEY" as they rip their top open in the frozen aisle  ) probably don't reflect reality. Like I said, I can't speak for breastfeeding mothers, but I really doubt that the vast majority of them want attention while doing it, let alone want to be provocative (of what?).
